{"id":2755,"date":"2024-07-02T10:03:51","date_gmt":"2024-07-02T10:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/geopolitic.info\/?p=2755"},"modified":"2024-07-02T10:03:51","modified_gmt":"2024-07-02T10:03:51","slug":"make-europe-great-again-hungary-takes-over-eu-presidency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/geopolitic.info\/index.php\/2024\/07\/02\/make-europe-great-again-hungary-takes-over-eu-presidency\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cMake Europe Great Again\u201d: Hungary takes over EU presidency"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Hungary took over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) on Monday for six months, with its focus on enhancing EU competitiveness.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"820\" height=\"527\" src=\"https:\/\/geopolitic.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2758\" srcset=\"https:\/\/geopolitic.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/image-1.png 820w, https:\/\/geopolitic.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/image-1-300x193.png 300w, https:\/\/geopolitic.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/image-1-768x494.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 820px) 100vw, 820px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hungary took over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) on Monday for six months, with its focus on enhancing EU competitiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Sunday, the day before Hungary started its EU presidency, Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced in Vienna the creation of \u201cPatriots for Europe,\u201d a new far-right alliance, in the European Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He presented the alliance with Herbert Kickl, leader of Austria\u2019s far-right Freedom Party (FPOe), and Andrej Babis, leader of the main Czech opposition party Action of Dissatisfied Citizens (ANO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Orban said the alliance, comprising his right-wing populist Fidesz party, FPOe, and ANO, would soon become the \u201clargest group of the European right.\u201d Yet it would need to attract lawmakers from at least four other EU member states to form a group in the European Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Austrian broadcaster ORF raised the question of how the National Rally (RN) of the French right-wing populist Marine Le Pen and Germany\u2019s AfD party would react to the new alliance.
