And I ask you instead to help us elect Kamala Harris for President,\u201d she said, to loud cheers and chants of \u201cThank you Liz!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Calling Cheney a \u201ctrue patriot\u201d, Harris thanked the Republican for her courage and \u201cthe conviction to speak truth\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hours before the pair took the stage, Trump rallied supporters in another closely-fought Midwestern battleground, Michigan, where he reprised the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/world\/donald-trumps-drumbeat-of-lies-about-the-2020-election-keeps-getting-louder-here-are-the-facts\/SJPETOFZI5GTXL4EAHM5CVH3TE\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">false claims of election fraud<\/a>&nbsp;that led to the deadly violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His appearance came in the wake of a bombshell filing in his prosecution for an alleged criminal plot to subvert the 2020 election, which argued that he had no Presidential immunity for the \u201cprivate criminal effort\u201d and provided new evidence of his alleged misconduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe did great in 2016 &#8211; a lot of people don\u2019t know. We did much better in 2020 &#8211; we won. We won, we did win. It was a rigged election,\u201d Trump said of his seven-million-vote defeat to Joe Biden in a now-familiar refrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump has been spreading debunked conspiracy theories about fraud in the 2020 election since before it was conducted, but there were multiple other egregious falsehoods from the Republican, who has a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/world\/donald-trump-trial-jury-returns-to-deliberations-after-re-hearing-instructions-testimony\/6QH6ZTLKFVFTHERPRRPH6NUAC4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">string of felony convictions<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/world\/donald-trump-trial-jury-returns-to-deliberations-after-re-hearing-instructions-testimony\/6QH6ZTLKFVFTHERPRRPH6NUAC4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;and civil adjudications against him<\/a>&nbsp;for dishonesty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump repeatedly misled his audience about the Biden administration\u2019s response to the deadly hurricane which has devastated parts of the southeast, misrepresented migrant crime statistics and impugned the mental health of Harris and two senior Democratic lawmakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The former reality TV star was delivering his remarks in the rust-belt Michigan county of Saginaw that he won in 2016 and then narrowly lost to Joe Biden in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \u201cRust Belt\u201d states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania are among seven battlegrounds that are expected to decide an agonisingly close 2024 election that\u2019s just over a month away. Early voting has already begun in several states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harris used her Wisconsin rally to reach out to Republicans whom Democrats hope are turned off by Trump\u2019s extreme rhetoric on subjects ranging from abortion to migration and democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She reminded Americans how Trump \u201crecklessly tramples on our democratic values\u201d and would likely do so again from the Oval Office should he win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDonald Trump lost the 2020 election,\u201d Harris said. \u201cAs you have heard and know, he refused to accept the will of the people and the results of an election that was free and fair.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conservative Cheney was one of only 10 Republicans to vote to impeach Trump over the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/world\/us-capitol-riot-jan-6-final-report-trump-lit-fire-of-insurrection\/RC4PCI3EGZA77KXX7BE7BSO7JI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">attacks on the Capitol by Trump supporters<\/a>, who were trying to halt the certification of Trump\u2019s defeat to Biden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She was thrown out of House Republican leadership for her opposition to Trump.
